Interstellar Father Figure
Dearest J,
I watched the movie Interstellar for the first time yesterday. Yeah, I know it’s been around for a while but I never got around to watching it in its entirety. Though it’s very different from mainline Christianity, the idea at the end of the father communicating to his daughter, that he will “never give up on her” … and that “they didn’t believe me when I told them it’s you, Dad, communicating with me” and all of this. That they laugh that the building was named after him. In a way, she was portraying Jesus Christ (or even daily humans) and the father was the interstellar God or Father, communicating whereas no one believes these ideas are coming beyond space/time. That love “communicates beyond distance and understanding” … etc etc.
So yeah, it was interesting and compelling. It made me realize that even in this movie, which is not Christian, we still repeat Christian themes. The idea of the Father, communicating with his children, if we just BELIEVE. You know?

And in Church service (last Sunday and this Sunday), we are describing the role of women in service. And TBH, I really got kind of upset by the message. We’re going over 1 Corinthians, and there’s stuff in there I don’t love. Especially what it says about buzzcuts!
There are a few scriptures / verses that I can pull out … but I’ll pull out the one that upsets me the most:
34 Wives should be respectfully silent at the gatherings, as they are not allowed to speak; and they should yield themselves to those in authority just as it is written in the law. 35 When they want to learn anything in particular, they should ask their husbands when they get home. It creates a shameful situation for them to speak at church. (The Voice Bible)
And yeah. I mean, I’m really not too down with this. Period!
Like, I don’t like the idea for a few reasons, despite Paul also speaking before that women are allowed to prophesize in the past, etc. And knowing that the point of this passage is about prophesizing in gatherings as to keep things … orderly.
Women should yield to those in authority (AKA, her man)
That a woman should WAIT to ask her husband when she gets home
That it’s SHAMEFUL to her to speak in church ( … isn’t Jesus against the idea of having shame in general)?
And so yeah, I mean … in general, I don’t know. I’m still learning, but it just made me feel like women are allowed less liberty to ask questions and be leading things in Church. And that doesn’t sit well with me, so yeah.

I’ve also decided, I think I’m going to attend a Secular group on Friday, just because I feel … though I DO respect the Bible and love Bible Journaling, and really all that it is, there’s a lot in there I’m confused about.
Until next time!
